The last day of school is here!  What a wonderful and fast moving school year this has been!

If you want to sign up to receive Tiger Talk emails next year, and didn’t already fill out the forms that came home in backpacks, then please click here:  Tiger Talk Sign Up.  Now is also a great time to join the PTA for next year.  To read about what our PTA does, please click here:  Information about Grady PTA.  To sign up to join the PTA online, please click here:  Join Grady PTA.

We have extra yearbooks for sale in the front office for $20 each.  You can still drop by the school early next week and pick one up.  Please call the school at 872-5325 before you come by to make sure someone is available to assist you.

We have pictures of yesterday’s Fifth Grade Banquet up on our website and we have pictures of 1st – 3rd Grady's Math Bowl Teams.  If you have pictures you would like to add to the photo galleries, please send them to me via return email.   Thank you to all the parents who provided photos for our photo gallery this year.  We are always in need of photos for the yearbook and website.

We want to know what you think about Family/Spirit Nights at local restaurants and if you have any restaurants to suggest for Family/Spirit Night locations. Please click here:  Family Night Survey to take our 5 question survey.  Again, thank you for all your participation in Family/Spirit nights this year.  This year, your participation added over $1,000 which was used to fund extra supplies and events at Grady Elementary.

It has been the pleasure of the board and committee heads of Grady PTA to serve the greater PTA membership this year.  We thank you for your service to our school and wish you and your family a safe and happy summer.

UPDATE: Important Weather Update
After consulting with the National Weather Service and area agencies, ALL Hillsborough County Public Schools and district offices will be open tomorrow, Tuesday, June 7, for normal business hours.

A hearty congratulations to Mr. Nick Tsourakis, who won the Hillsborough County PTA’s Instructor of the Year Award.  Mr. Tsourakis was nominated for the Instructor of the Year Award because of his creative use of reading incentives, his arranging for an author to speak to students by Skype, and of course, his willingness to be slimed by students in order to promote the book fair.  He also purchased a starter robotics kit for the library and received a PTA mini-grant to purchase the remainder of the robotics kit.  We are so delighted for Mr. Tsourakis and proud of the work he has done for our school.

On Monday, May 16, the Tampa Taiko Traditional Japanese Performing Arts Group visited Grady Elementary.  The group played traditional Japanese drums and told stories.  One story was about a group of two villages that decided to go to battle for scarce resources during a drought.  Instead of a physical battle, the villages decided to have a battle of the drummers.  The drummers from both villages played so loudly that the sounds provoked thunder and then rain, ending the drought and the need for war.

See below as the drummers perform and as Grady teachers get in on the act!

Grady's fourth grade students are now published poets!

Our fourth graders worked on poetry for Poetry Month.  This year (for the first time) in addition to binding their own work, we selected their favorite poems and compiled those poems into a published (paperback) book. Each fourth grader has a poem in the book.

Students also submitted artwork for the cover of our book.  The cover selected was illustrated by Sydney Nichols, fourth grade student at Grady.

We sold the books for $10.00.  The proceeds of the book are being donated to Camp Corral.  We are proud to say that we have collected $420.00 in profit that will be donated to Camp Corral!

Camp Corral is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the lives of children of wounded, disabled and fallen military heroes by providing a unique summer camp experience with peers who share similar experiences.

We are so PROUD of our Fourth Grade!!!

Grady Elementary was recently evaluated in the 2016 Teaching, Empowering, Learning and Leading (“TELL”) Survey administered by Hillsborough County Public Schools.  The TELL survey is an anonymous survey of instructional and professional staff in HCPS that assesses teaching conditions at the school and district level.  The survey asks participants to evaluate the culture of trust, the community support and involvement of parents, school leadership, overall student conduct, and the professional development of teachers.  Schools can receive scores from 1 to 100.  Grady received a 100 point rating on culture of trust, a 99.7 rating on community involvement and support, a 98.6 rating on managing student conduct, a 99.6 rating on teacher leadership, a 98.9 rating on school leadership and a 97.3 rating on professional development.  These are spectacular scores and reflect dedicated teaching and leadership and fantastic community and parent involvement.  Thank you, parents and teachers for helping to build a positive community for our students!
