Dear 4th Grade Parents,
As 4th graders, your child will be participating in a reading adventure called the Battle of the Books. The purpose of this reading enrichment program is to encourage recreational reading, offer a variety of types of literature, increase familiarity with different authors, and share books through written and oral expression.
There are a total of fifteen (15) books. Fifteen books are chosen from the Sunshine State Young Reader Awards. Attached is this year's list. Please encourage your child to read during the summer. These books are available at the public libraries and book stores. (They will also be available in the media center and the classroom).
As part of the Battle of the Books, students will compete with their homeroom (April/May). The top (4) students from each homeroom will "battle" with the knowledge of the books. The winning team will then go on to represent Grady Elementary in the "Battle of the Books" competition (May) against other local schools. Representing Grady at this competition is both a great honor and rewarding experience.
