Superintendent Elia is holding a Parent Information Meeting on the new Florida Standards on Monday, September 8 at 7 pm at Grady Elementary. This meeting will show parents how the new standards will change what their children will be doing in the classroom. The Florida Standards stress critical thinking and require students to backup their answers with evidence from textbooks and other materials.

If you are unable to attend the meeting at Grady or a similar meeting occurring on Sunday, September 7 at 2:30 pm at South Tampa Fellowship (Ballast Point campus), 5101 Bayshore Blvd Tampa, you may download the presentation by clicking on this link: http://www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/doc/752/superintendents-office/resources/flss-powerpoint/. Tiger Trot

We are starting a daily fitness running club, "Tiger Trot." This will begin Monday, September 8th, 2014. School running clubs get kids motivated, fit, and ready to learn. Please get your students to school at 7:30 a.m. every day to participate in our "Tiger Trot." Your efforts and theirs will pay off. You will see your students) make great progress in their running and fitness while enjoying the time in the morning with their friends.

When your child enters Grady they will be directed to:

  • The Field for Tiger Trot
  • Cafeteria for breakfast
  • I-station Lab (I-station lab students will participate in running club on Fridays only)

*Students will no longer be permitted in their homeroom class until 7:50 a.m. this .will give your students) plenty of time to complete their morning procedures and be ready for the academic day at 8:00 a.m.

Why Run? There is mounting evidence that exercise prior to classroom work is extremely beneficial for elementary school children. Students may learn better and be more focused, behavioral issues could diminish, and they may achieve higher test scores and gain self-esteem. We encourage you to jumpstart your children's day by allowing them to participate in Tiger Trot.

*No running club if it rains or if the field is too wet*

Dear Parents:

Welcome to Grady Elementary School, an "A" school, with a faculty and staff that is "Roaring with Pride!" I commend the students and teachers for placing 3rd in the district (out of 144 elementary schools) and 1st among all South Tampa schools, in regards to points scored on the FCAT this past school year. This was quite a feat, and could not have been accomplished without the support of our parents, PTA, and community partners. I hope that you have had an enjoyable summer and are as eager as I am to begin the 2014-2015 school year. My name is Kristine Dosal and I am truly excited and honored to begin my fourth year as Grady's principal. Our district's Florida Standards Training (Common Core) has kept teachers and administrators focused on the rigor that will be needed to face the academic challenges now and in the future.

Please plan on attending our Open House on Friday, August 15, 2014, from 5:00pm - 7:15pm to meet your child's teacher and receive an overview of the 2014-2015 academic year. For your convenience, our PTA will have food trucks on site.

Students will begin class on Tuesday, August 19, 2014. School hours are from 8:00 a.m. - 2:15 p.m. for all grades, Pre-K through 5th. Each Monday will be Early Release and students are dismissed at 1:15 p.m. Every minute to lean counts, so please make sure that your child arrives to school on time daily. If your child attended Grady last year, it is not necessary for you to report to school to register unless your address has changed or if you are renewing an affidavit. On the first day of school, we will send home a packet of information with forms to complete. The prompt return of the forms will assist us in updating school records and emergency information. This folder will then be used as your child's weekly "Take-Home" folder.
