WELCOME, One and All, to Grady Elementary’ s Open House taking place on campus Monday, August 8, from 5 pm until 7:15 pm.  This will be an opportunity to meet your teacher, drop off school supplies, and learn more about what will take place this coming year.  Grady Tigers will be "Earning Our Stripes" this year, so please come see what that means.

Also, this event will be a chance to join the PTA, purchase spirit shirts, sign up for YMCA aftercare, learn about afterschool clubs, and participate in a free uniform swap.

Come on out to this great event!

School starts Wednesday, August 10, at 8:00 am.

Congratulations to Grady Elementary students, teachers and parents for Grady's spectacular performance on both the Stanford Achievement Test (“SAT”) and the Florida Standards Assessment  (“FSA”).  In 2016, Grady turned in overall FSA scores that ranked second in the entire Hillsborough County School District, which includes 154 elementary schools.  Grady was number 1 among all elementary schools in the competitive Area 1 (South Tampa) zone.  On the SAT, Grady ranked 1st in both reading and math for first grade, and 6th on both reading and math for second grade.

The test results and rankings demonstrate that Grady students are displaying mastery of the curriculum and national educational standards.  The results show that Grady teachers are effectively communicating the curriculum, working with students to develop the skills to master the curriculum and that students are able to demonstrate the skills and knowledge imparted by their teachers.  The results show that our children are experiencing educational success.  Congratulations to all who have made these wonderful results possible.

UPDATE: Important Weather Update
After consulting with the National Weather Service and area agencies, ALL Hillsborough County Public Schools and district offices will be open tomorrow, Tuesday, June 7, for normal business hours.

A hearty congratulations to Mr. Nick Tsourakis, who won the Hillsborough County PTA’s Instructor of the Year Award.  Mr. Tsourakis was nominated for the Instructor of the Year Award because of his creative use of reading incentives, his arranging for an author to speak to students by Skype, and of course, his willingness to be slimed by students in order to promote the book fair.  He also purchased a starter robotics kit for the library and received a PTA mini-grant to purchase the remainder of the robotics kit.  We are so delighted for Mr. Tsourakis and proud of the work he has done for our school.

On Monday, May 16, the Tampa Taiko Traditional Japanese Performing Arts Group visited Grady Elementary.  The group played traditional Japanese drums and told stories.  One story was about a group of two villages that decided to go to battle for scarce resources during a drought.  Instead of a physical battle, the villages decided to have a battle of the drummers.  The drummers from both villages played so loudly that the sounds provoked thunder and then rain, ending the drought and the need for war.

See below as the drummers perform and as Grady teachers get in on the act!

Thank you to the families that came to Beef O’Brady’s family night last Wednesday.  It was our last Beef’s family night for the year and it was well attended.  We make about $100 or so per family night, so your participation really helps.  This week is Chick-fil-A Family Week.  That means you can order breakfast, lunch or dinner at Chick-fil-A at 609 S. Dale Mabry from Monday, May 16, to Friday, May 20, tell the cashier you are there for Grady, and a percentage of your purchase will be donated to Grady.  Every bit helps, and we appreciate when you take the time to help our school through family nights.
