Hillsborough County Schools Superintendent, MaryEllen Elia, spoke with regard to the Florida Standards at Grady Elementary on September 8, 2014. This well-attended event featured both a presentation on the purpose of the standards and a question and answer session with Superintendent Elia. Grady Elementary thanks Superintendent Elia for her visit to our school.
Below is a picture of teachers, Ms. Ritter, Ms.Ward, Ms. Barra, and Ms. Bowen, who greeted visitors to the school.
One of our PTA moms made cookies for the event that were placed on all the seats.
Superintendent Elia is holding a Parent Information Meeting on the new Florida Standards on Monday, September 8 at 7 pm at Grady Elementary. This meeting will show parents how the new standards will change what their children will be doing in the classroom. The Florida Standards stress critical thinking and require students to backup their answers with evidence from textbooks and other materials.
If you are unable to attend the meeting at Grady or a similar meeting occurring on Sunday, September 7 at 2:30 pm at South Tampa Fellowship (Ballast Point campus), 5101 Bayshore Blvd Tampa, you may download the presentation by clicking on this link: http://www.sdhc.k12.fl.us/doc/752/superintendents-office/resources/flss-powerpoint/. We are starting a daily fitness running club, "Tiger Trot." This will begin Monday, September 8th, 2014. School running clubs get kids motivated, fit, and ready to learn. Please get your students to school at 7:30 a.m. every day to participate in our "Tiger Trot." Your efforts and theirs will pay off. You will see your students) make great progress in their running and fitness while enjoying the time in the morning with their friends.
When your child enters Grady they will be directed to:
- The Field for Tiger Trot
- Cafeteria for breakfast
- I-station Lab (I-station lab students will participate in running club on Fridays only)
*Students will no longer be permitted in their homeroom class until 7:50 a.m. this .will give your students) plenty of time to complete their morning procedures and be ready for the academic day at 8:00 a.m.
Why Run? There is mounting evidence that exercise prior to classroom work is extremely beneficial for elementary school children. Students may learn better and be more focused, behavioral issues could diminish, and they may achieve higher test scores and gain self-esteem. We encourage you to jumpstart your children's day by allowing them to participate in Tiger Trot.
*No running club if it rains or if the field is too wet*
